Maenam Hill Trek

The Summit of South Sikkim
Ground notes

Why Maenam Hill Trek?

Maenam Hill (3,235m) is the highest point of South Sikkim — a protected wildlife sanctuary above Ravangla with one of the most varied altitude gradients in the region. The half-day trek climbs through dense subtropical forest that gives way to rhododendron and magnolia, then opens onto a bare summit ridge where Kanchenjunga, Pandim and the Kabru massif appear above a sea of cloud. Red pandas have been sighted here. The Maenam Monastery at the top is centuries old and often empty.

Insider tip

Start the Maenam trek at 6am from Ravangla to be at the summit by 9am — clouds build fast after 10am and the view disappears. Carry a packed breakfast.
