Lachung & Yumthang Valley
The Valley of Flowers
Ground notes
Why Lachung & Yumthang Valley?
Lachung is a 2,400m Bhutia village in North Sikkim. From it you drive each morning into Yumthang, the Valley of Flowers, where twenty-four species of rhododendron bloom in April-May, where hot sulphur springs bubble by the Teesta river, and where Zero Point at 4,800m marks the last stretch of civilian road before the Tibet border. An utterly different Sikkim from Gangtok.
