Goechala
The Kanchenjunga Trek
Ground notes
Why Goechala?
Goechala is, for many Indian mountaineers, the finest mid-altitude trek in the country. Ten days from Yuksom, crossing forests of oak, magnolia and rhododendron, past Tshoka and Dzongri, up to View Point One at 4,940m — where, on a clear April morning, the 8,586m east face of Kanchenjunga rises from a bowl of glaciers, so close it seems to lean over the trail.
